The Highland Lakes will be well represented by several athletes playing in the inaugural Hill Country Coaches Association all-star game at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at Texan Stadium in Wimberley.

They are Marble Falls quarterback Colten Minor and receivers Kole Becker and Noah Lyon, who will also play linebacker; Llano running back Trey Mote and receivers R.J. Coplin and Carter Bickett, who will also play defensive back, and inside linebacker Tate Morgan; and Burnet center Jonathan Ryder, defensive end Noah Billock and receiver Marcus Pimentel.

Joel Fontenot-Amedee, who is the founder and president of the HCCA, said one big reason why he started the association goes back to the players.

“The all-star game was the driving force behind us starting the HCCA,” he said. “We felt as though our region was criminally underrepresented in other all-star games. Our mission is to impact, support, celebrate, connect and grow student-athletes and coaches throughout the Texas Hill Country. We feel like this game is one big step forward towards that mission.”

These Highland Lakes athletes will suit up for the East team. They were nominated for the all-star game by their high school coaches. They played significant roles for their programs with several being multi-year lettermen and leaders in their position rooms.

“All players who were selected to participate in this all-star game are seniors,” Fontenot-Amedee said. “That is a standard thing in Texas that they are seniors.”

Coaching the East team are Wimberley retiring head coach Doug Warren and his staff. Fontenot-Amedee, who is the athletic director and football head coach at Bandera, and his staff will coach the West team.

Also volunteering to coach is Llano High School defensive coordinator Matt Anastasio, will coach the linebackers. Anastasio is retiring at the end of the school year.

A $10 admission fee will be charged. Buy tickets here.

“All proceeds go back to the organization, which will help us pay the officials, and will eventually create scholarship opportunities for student-athletes whose schools are members of the HCCA,” Fontenot-Amedee said.

The East team had a practice Sunday, May 11.
